The hotel is situated in the wonderful Holbox island , in the northern point of the Yucatan peninsula, at 30 minutes from the traditional village of Chiquila, in front of the sea, on a long white sand beach, lightly humide and hard (fine sand is either closer to the village, or more at east). Isla Holbox is a true heaven for all the mosquitos and all the flying and stinging insects. It's the ideal place for those who love the natural sites where animals rule.
 
The hotel has 36 climatised rooms, divided in several bungalows with 2 or 3 floors. The rooms have either a king size bed or 2 simple beds, a bathroom with shower, hair-dryer,a mini-bar (with charge of admission), a television and a phone.

The 'Villas Paraiso Del Mar'hotel, in general

The few alleys are perfectly kept, always beautiful and in flower.

 

The hotel is very open, as you can notice. Everything is conceived to make draughts easier. I think in this island it should be really hot during the whole year, contrary to what you can read here. The photos were taken at the end of january, that is probably not the best period to go there.

 

The restaurant

The building where the restaurant is located is really impressive: it's 22 metres high. There're about thirthy tables and it's open from 8 to 10.30, from 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. and from 8.30 p.m.to 1030. p.m., which obviously means that it serves breakfeast, lunch and dinner. The problem is if you decide to go there on january, because the sun set at about 5 p.m., and if you finish having luch at 3.30 p. m. you don't have so much time to enjoy the afternoon.
You've often the impression to be alone because of the vastity of the location...except when you go to the resaturant: there, it often happens to queue...especially if you decide to arrive there at opening time. Since it's a small island and there're not many things to do and to visit, the meals become importants and keep yourselves busy.

Meals are not very varied.

The main starters are : guacamole, grated carrots, fruit salad and vegetables
The Main dishes are: chicken or fish, and often a red meat served with rice, french frites and sometimes spices...
Desserts are : fruits, and two weird cakes.

Normally they try to offer a "dish of the day"...

Speaking about health, we didn't have any problem either with fruits or vegetables. Even if they aren't always mature, they're perfectly eatable and they're washed with drinking water.
About crayfishes....the hotel doesn't have them. On the other hand, you can easily find them in the city restaurants or in the resaturant "viva Zapata" (which is suggested by Alessia, the french-speaking animator of the hotel).

Swimming pool

It's extremely cold in winter, when it's almost impossible to have a swim. I think its temperature is about 18 and 20 degrees. As it's very small, it's not a problem.

 

The king of the swimming pool: Johnny the lizard (we chose the name).

Everymornig it has a sunbath and when somebody get closer it hides itself under the paving stones of the swimming pool. It really cuts a fine figure !
Since it's a very common animal in Mexico, you have to get use to it.

 

Rooms

They're very big, beautiful and clean. As everywhere in Mexico, the finishing touches are not well made, but it's still allright. The hotel offers three different kind of rooms: normal, medium and big.

In the 3 level bungalows, you have the normal suites at the ground floor and the mediums (with mezzanine) at the first and at the second floor..

The 2 level bungalows are next to the beach, where there're just "royal" rooms. At the ground floor you find the living room, the bathroom and the jaccuzzi. At the first floor there's a room with a sea view and a terrace. There's a televion on each floor, so you should not get bored.

Don't hesitate to change room and take a more expensive one, if you're not satified of yours. At the end of january, the additional charge (to change the simple room with the big one) was 25$ per nighte. I think nodody who did it had to regret !

You could take the most of the scenery from the balcon or the terrace,, where you can also find a hammock.

 

Restauration :
The "all-inclusive"formule let you access to the restaurant, which serves in buffet form and to the 2 bars. the wine is included during the meals.

Equipment and activities :
For you spare-time activities, you have a swimming pool, a paddling pool, long chairs and some beach towels. You can also practice kayak or have some rides in bicycles, which will make you discover the beauty of this island. Day activities and musical animation during the night.
With charge of admission:
Massages, three-wheeled cyclecar rental, nautical sports, internet access.
Take the most of your stay in this natural travel visiting Bird Island (Isla Pajaros), this small island has a diameter of 60 metres and it's at 20 minutes by boating form Isla Holbox. 
You'll also have the possibility to see an incredible variety of birds, like flamingos, frigate birds, cormorants, pelicans,....There 140 sort of birds to discovery.

 

Our opinion :
This charming stopover will leave you an unforgettable souvenir . With a bit of luck, you'll have the chance to observe the dolphins in their natural habitat... A preserved island to discover.

Formalities

A passport with a validity of 6 months after the arrival date. The visitors don't need a visa to go to Mexico. On the other hand, they need a Tourist Card (tarjeta de turista), which is freely issuedto the french citizens inside the planes.

Health

They'rr not obligatory vaccinations but some of them are strongly recommended according to the destination. If you're going to the main touristic seaside places, just the classical vaccinations are suggested.
