CobaLocated between the temples of Tulum and Chichen Itza
Visit of the maya site in Tulum The site is several kilometres long. Besides, it's the vastest maya site of Mexico, even if they discovered just the 20% of monuments till now. Because it's in the depths of the jungle, it's quite difficult to get into it to make some excavations. The first ball court next to the entrance. As the next monument is some hundreds metres from the entrance, you've the possibility to rent a bike or a rickshaw. If you choose the second one and you speak spanish or maya, you'll also have some local explanations.
The second ball court, restored. You can see its centre, a dead head, which probably reminded the players that the looser, or the winner (we still don't know..) had to be sacrified to the gods.
According to our guide (a rickshaw driver) this is the beginning of a street made by mayas, which was starting from Tulum to arrive to Chichen Itza (100km long). It was an extraordinary thing for that period, and the guide was so touched while he was telling us. It was really fascinating. Then the higher temple of Yucatan, in our opinion. It's really high and moreover it has very impressive stairs not restored yet. It's because of it you can easily suffer from vertigo. From the top you can see the vegetation which surrounds the site and you can understand why it's so difficult to get into it. And then some remains This site is magnificent and you can't miss it..
Concerning the city and the outskirts of Coba archaeological site The site is located next to a big lake.In this one, you can see lots of crocodiles. And trust me: a piece of wood which fleets and moves, it's absolutely not a piece of wood !!! Try to give it a piece of meat, and you'll suddenly see some crocodile teeth coming out of the water. Concerning the guest houses, there're some. The one we treid didn't offer a lot of comforts. Maybe it's ok in summer or when it's hot, but in winter the depth of the fitted sheets and the blankets isn't enough. We realize in these occasion how poor is Mexico...and so its inhabitants do what they can... We has also the possibility to listen a continuous concert of cocks. We also learnt that the cocks don't sing just at the sunrise, but also during the night. And when they were silent, there're some dogs doing races... An unforgettable stay :)
