Population : 7,5 millions inhabitants
Surface : 48.442 km²
Capital city : Santo Domingo (2,7 millions inhabitants)
Language : Spanish
Local currency : Dominican Peso ( 1 US$ = 17 pesos RD )
Admittance : Passport. The departure and arrival taxes are 10 US$ each (feb. 2003). I think they're a bit more expensive now.

Currently valid Identity Card (the new plastified model) or Passport.

Climate : tropical humide, dry season from november to aprils. Humid season from may to june (heavy but short rains.
Electric current : 110 volts, american plugs. Adapter obligatory for the device withstanding 110V.
Time zone : 6 less than Paris.

Visited places

Dominican Republic is a very touristic country and there're plenty of tour operators which propose many low-cost travels and stay. I suggest to all those who didn't have profit of it yet to visit the South, and especially the Southern Dominican coast between Saint Domingue and Saona Island .

The various cities: Boca Chica with its really beautiful beach, Juan Dolio and obviously its capital Saint Domingue (Santo Domingo).

The various islands: Catalina island et Saona island (more details on Saona excursion).
